Project Pear Journal
Drawing From Observation
This is my first post – a test, really, to see how the post looks
with both writing
and with photos included.
This is a drawing from June 2009, when I returned to the NYSS for a Drawing Marathon. The process is what I love, even more than the finished product. The process of drawing, looking, seeing, noticing, and translating that process into the metaphor of marks on paper: drawing.

ABOUT THIS BLOG
This blog is a continuation of a hand-written journal of a mindfulness practice which I named Pear Journal, written in the year 2000. The journal was based upon a mindfulness practice of drawing pears every day and writing about the experience, my observations, and occasionally of the revelations I had while drawing, observing, and simply being.
Many years later, I have decided to continue my journal in the form of a blog, expanding the project to include other ways of practicing art and paying attention. This is an environment in which to share my reflections and drawings, a project to keep me accountable and practicing, and a place to celebrate the richness which can be found simply by paying attention.THE CHALLENGE OF THE PROJECT
The personal challenge: maintain a regular practice of art and mindfulness for one year. My incentive: moving back to New York City and entering an MFA program in Drawing and Painting in Sept 2013.Categories
